COVID-19 Safety Procedures
The school will be asked to confirm its specific Covid-19 visitor guidelines/protocols prior to the visit to ensure that these are understood and adhered to.
Outdoor Activity Sessions
I will arrive at the school ninety minutes before the first first scheduled session of the day.
On arrival, I will require access to the school’s outdoor space to draw a map for the mini-orienteering element of sessions. I draw a “rough” map walking around the space and then produce a “clean” version of the finished map.
I do not need to enter the school’s buildings, I can finish drawing the “clean” version of the map in my car. This map can be passed to the school office for photocopying prior to the start of sessions.
Classes will be met for introduction/briefing at an agreed outdoor location.
I will observe social distancing of two metres between myself and the children and staff.
Looking at Ordnance Survey maps and symbols – under normal circumstances this section of the session would take place in the classroom. If the school prefers, this can take place outdoors.
Compass directions [KS1] – this section of the session takes place outdoors and involves making a large rope map on the playground. The children are given a laminated map each to look at. These maps will be sanitised between sessions.
Compass directions [KS2] – this section of the session takes place outdoors and involves children finding out how to use a compass. In normal circumstances the children work in pairs sharing a compass to encourage teamwork and discussion. If the school prefers, each child can have their own compass. Compasses will be sanitised between sessions.
Mini-orienteering – in normal circumstances children work in pairs to encourage teamwork and discussion sharing one map and clipboard. If the school prefers, children can have a map and clipboard each. Clipboards will be sanitised between sessions. If the school prefers, the school’s own clipboards can be used.
All items children touch during the sessions – laminated maps, compasses, clipboards – will be wiped down/sanitized between sessions.
Children will bring their own pencil with them to use during the mini-orienteering element.
I will sanitize my hands before and after each session.
